Biography for Marc Brewer:
While relatively new to the DJ scene, Marc B has risen quickly in the ranks of Metro Detroit's premier salsa DJs. When spinning, he plays whatever keeps the crowd grooving. Also known as "The Dancing DJ", Marc B is in tune with what makes dancers move. DJ Marc B started his quest as an aspiring music aficionado and collector. His love of music as well as its origin and history has motivated him to compile an extensive collection of music which dates back to the early 1940’s. While a specialist in the salsa dura and salsa vieja genres, his collection now includes songs on albums, CDs, and MP3s with music ranging from contemporary salsa, timba, Columbian salsa, and salsa romantica, to much more. "I am and always will be a dancer first, and a DJ second. The music I play comes from what I like to listen to and what makes me move. The star of any salsa event is not the DJ, instructors, or performers that you see, but the music itself…the dance should never take precedence over the music because better music makes better dancers."
Marc will be teaching Salsa, Bachata, and Cha Cha workshops in Pittsburgh January 8, 2010. Currently competing throughout the Midwest as part of Reino del Ritmo Dance Company, Marc uses the dance floor like a “laboratory”, taking a very scientific and methodical approach to breaking down and understanding proper technique. Recent accomplishments include placing 1st in the Shake it Dance Contest in Columbus, OH (Judged by Ismael Otero and Shani Talmor) and placing 2nd in the Intosalsa 5th Annual Salsa Dance Competition in Indianapolis, IN (Judged by Andy Cruz, Kimberly Rivera, and Herman Recalde). One of Michigan’s most innovative salseros, he’s known for his musicality and his creative and complex turn patterns. Don’t miss this opportunity to work with one of Metro Detroit’s most promising young salseros!!!
