Salsa Pittsburgh was created in October 2000 by Jeff & Colleen Shirey. They have been teaching and promoting salsa events since 1999. Jeff was the Pittsburgh Cityguides Correspondent for salsaweb.com from 1999 to 2008, then established salsapittsburgh.com in 2008 as a way to provide salsa dancing related information to the local salsa dance community. Dancers: Take time to appreciate and recognize the efforts and contributions of those that came before you. On February 11 you have an opportunity to learn about the variety of rhythms and origins of the music and dance you love so dearly.
In just one short week, Salsa Pittsburgh will be hosting Film Director / Executive Producer Josue Joseph, as he travels to Pittsburgh to screen Part II La Epoca - The Lost Rhythms in Salsa. This screening will take place at the BMNECC on Saturday, February 11 from 7:30 - 9:30 pm. A Q&A session will follow at 9:30 pm, then social dancing from 10:00 pm until 1:00 am. Performances at 11:30 pm. Josue will also conduct two afternoon workshops from 2:00 - 4:00 pm on Saturday, February 11 at the Wightman School Community Building in Squirrel Hill. The workshops will teach dancers how to incorporate Old-School Mambo, and Son-Montuno body movements into their existing dance styles. Click here for times, pricing, and venue information.
While here, Josue will be filming dancers and workshop participants for possible inclusion in his third film, Part III La Epoca - The Movements in Salsa - A Motion Picture Based on a True Story.

Two afternoon workshops taught by International Film Director, Musician, and Dancer, Josue Joseph.
Workshops are $10.00 each, payable at the door. Please arrive 15 minutes early to register for the workshops.
2:00 - 3:00 pm: Josue presents a dance workshop on Old-School Mambo-Guaguanco which teaches dancers how to recognize and interpret the Mambo and Guaguanco rhythms, and then how to incorporate Old-School Mambo and Guaguanco body movements into existing dance styles.
3:00 - 4:00 pm: Josue presents the Son-Montuno Musicality-and-Dance Workshop teaching dancers how to recognize and interpret the slow Son-Montuno and Guajira rhythms and how to apply body movements to slower rhythms using the space in the music.
